REC Limited 

REC Limited began in 1969 around rural electrification and pump-set finance and is now a Maharatna under the Ministry of Power. It is registered in the public record as a non-banking financial company, a public financial institution, and an infrastructure finance company. It is not a village electricity shop, not a pump dealer, and not a private “rural bond broker.” A state DISCOM that borrows for a feeder, or a household that later sees a connection under a scheme REC administers as nodal agency, is still dealing with the same listed financier—not with a chat seller who claims to “allocate” a transformer. The historic book was rural and agricultural electrification. The present book is broader: generation, transmission, renewable energy, electric mobility, battery, hydrogen, roads, metro, and airports sit alongside the original power mandate as diversification the company itself names. REC also works through about twenty state offices and through subsidiaries RECPDCL and RECIPMT. It has been the nodal agency for Saubhagya, DDUGJY, and the National Electricity Fund, and it now sits on Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme work and on PM Surya Ghar. Those programme names describe official roles. They are not products a middleman can sell, and they are not proof that a direct message can fast-track a household rooftop or a contractor code. REC is therefore a Maharatna PFI and IFC with a rural origin story, not a DISCOM walk-in counter and not a recruitment consultant. Sanction amounts and portfolio rupee totals are not invented here; they belong in filings. Anyone who offers an “REC trainee slot,” a vendor code, or a “priority Saubhagya file” against a fee is a fraud pattern. The 1969 pump-set origin and the present multi-sector book sit in one legal entity; social colour does not create a parallel nodal agency.
