Axis Bank
FinanceAxis Bank is India’s third-largest private sector bank by assets and a full-service lender to households, small businesses, and large corporates. It began life as UTI Bank in the mid-1990s—commonly dated to 1994 in popular telling, with incorporation in December 1993—and later rebranded as Axis Bank. Promoter history still includes the Specified Undertaking of the Unit Trust of India (SUUTI) and Life Insurance Corporation of India among significant institutional holders, a reminder that the bank grew out of the UTI ecosystem rather than a purely promoter-family origin. The balance sheet has become a national-scale machine. As on 31 March 2026 the bank reported assets of ₹18,86,850 crore, a customer franchise of about fifty-four million, and a domestic network of 6,275 branches plus a large ATM and cash-recycler grid, with a substantial share of outlets in rural and semi-urban India. Overseas offices support trade, wholesale, and wealth flows. In March 2023 the bank closed the purchase of Citibank’s India consumer businesses—cards, retail deposits, wealth, and related loans—folding a premium urban book into the Axis franchise. Management markets the combined group under a “One Axis” idea: shared products across the bank and subsidiaries so a salary customer, a borrower, and an investor can be served from one relationship. Digital rails are not a side app. Axis has claimed a leading position in UPI as a payer PSP, citing about thirty-six percent market share by volume and value in FY26, alongside a large merchant-acquiring presence and a highly rated mobile application. Those figures move with NPCI and RBI data; treat social posts as commentary and check the latest investor presentation for the current share. Social channels—Facebook, X, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Instagram—are for education, campaigns, and careers, not for banking operations. Axis will never ask for an OTP, PIN, CVV, or full account password in a comment or direct message. Impersonation is routine around banks; official handles do not cold-collect KYC images. Disputes, blocking a card, and updating personal details belong in the Axis Mobile app, net banking, or published helplines. Rates, fees, and product features must be confirmed on axis.bank.in. This listing is a map to public communication from a UTI-era private bank that is now a top-three franchise with a Citi consumer book and a large UPI footprint—not a substitute for authenticated banking.
