Deepak Nitrite Limited, the listed flagship of Deepak Group, is a leading Indian producer of chemical intermediates whose molecules sit inside medicines, crop-protection recipes, resins, personal-care bases, petrochemical streams, adhesives, dyes, paper chemicals, coatings, and detergents. The Group presents itself as a partner of choice for domestic and global chemical majors: more than a hundred products, tens of end-use applications, and a manufacturing map built to keep nitration, hydrogenation, and phenolics on Indian soil rather than as import-dependent commodities. Responsible Chemistry is the public frame—process discipline, Responsible Care practice, and community work treated as part of how intermediates are made, not as a brochure afterthought. The corporate story begins in 1970 and becomes industrial in 1972, when sodium nitrite and sodium nitrate production started at Vadodara. Those two salts remain a domestic franchise: Deepak is widely cited as India’s leading maker of NaNO2 and NaNO3, the workhorse oxidants and intermediates that feed dyes, rubber chemicals, and other downstream trains. From that nitrite core the portfolio widened into nitro aromatics, hydrogenation chemistry, fuel additives, optical brightening agents, and a full phenolics chain—phenol, acetone, and isopropyl alcohol—run through Deepak Phenolics. Since 2018 the Group has been India’s largest phenol and acetone producer, a position that matters to laminates, plywood, pharmaceuticals, and solvent buyers who once relied on imports. In fine and performance lines it sits among the global top three for xylidines, cumidines, and oximes, the kind of substituted aromatics that agrochem and pharma synthesizers specify by isomer and purity. The operating book is organised as basic chemicals, fine and specialty chemicals, performance products, and phenolics. Seven plants across Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Telangana—Nandesari, Dahej, Roha, Taloja, Hyderabad and allied sites—give the Group regional depth, while Deepak Chem Tech carries forward integration and new process platforms. Shipments reach more than fifty countries. Customers are formulators and intermediates buyers, not retail shoppers: a resin house that needs phenol on schedule, a generics plant that needs a clean nitro or hydrogenated intermediate, a detergent or paper mill that needs an optical brightener that survives the process. Community work runs through Deepak Foundation, which the Group describes as reaching more than 1,500 villages and two million lives with health, livelihoods, and rural programmes around plant geographies. The Responsible Care logo on public materials is meant to signal that those plants are run to a recognised chemical-industry code, not only to local permits.
