Description

Indian Bank is a nationalised scheduled commercial bank of India—an institution that takes deposits, extends credit, runs trade and treasury books, and serves households, farmers, small firms, and large corporates from one regulated balance sheet. It is not a payments-only app, a standalone NBFC, or a regional rural bank. Customers who walk into a branch, open an account through the bank’s digital channels, or deal with a corporate desk are dealing with the same legal entity that reports to the Reserve Bank of India and discloses results as a listed public-sector bank. The franchise is older than independent India. The bank was constituted on 5 March 1907 and began business on 15 August 1907; the banyan tree that still marks the brand was chosen as a symbol of shelter and continuity. That founding story is the commercial identity: a south-India-origin bank that grew into a nationwide public-sector lender. The modern network is the product of organic expansion and the statutory amalgamation of Allahabad Bank with Indian Bank, which took effect on 1 April 2020. The merger folded a historic north-Indian franchise into Indian Bank’s books and created a single public-sector bank rather than two overlapping networks. As of 30 June 2026 the combined domestic branch count stood at 6,003 outlets—an operating fact that belongs in any description of reach, because Indian Bank is still a branch-led lender even as it pushes mobile and internet banking. Global business for the first quarter of FY27 was reported at ₹15.29 lakh crore, a scale figure that covers the on- and off-balance-sheet commercial book. Retail deposits, agriculture and MSME credit, corporate advances, and correspondent relationships all sit inside that number. Product coverage follows full-service public-sector practice: savings and current accounts, term deposits, retail and housing loans, priority-sector and farm credit, MSME working capital, trade finance, government-business mandates, and cards and UPI rails attached to the core account. Digital channels are layers on the bank, not substitutes for it. Official social destinations—Facebook at MyIndianBank, Instagram at @myIndianBank, X at @myindianbank, LinkedIn at /company/indianbank, and YouTube at @IndianBankOfficial—are brand and public-information surfaces. They carry campaigns, results headlines, security colour, and product films. They are not login pages, not dispute desks, and not places to complete KYC. Governance and disclosure belong on the bank’s own website and in exchange filings: tariff schedules, branch locators, amalgamation notices, and quarterly numbers should be read there, not in a caption. Impersonation of public-sector banks is common; treat any message that asks for remote access, Aadhaar images, or payment to a personal account as fraud. English is the language of these listings; Hindi and regional creative appear in consumer campaigns. Country is India. Follow only the official handles named here, then treat every post as communication from a century-old nationalised bank whose commercial fact is the 1907 founding, the banyan identity, the 2020 Allahabad Bank merger, a 6,003-branch domestic network as of mid-2026, and a global-business book of ₹15.29 lakh crore in Q1 FY27.
